Retro Girls, Vintage Gals and a Boy

Retro images - 30's to 50's [my version] and Vintage images - 20's and earlier - just speak to me.  I think it's my heritage of old movies and old photos. But I just find a connection. Of course, I like to alter and amp them and add my usual oddities.

These collages are in the vein of my 'Anonymous Content' work - an image catches my eye and the rest of the collage builds.  For some a title emerges, hence no longer 'anonymous.'  Is there a story to these inspirations?  Not usually. Just evoking a feeling.  If you follow this blog, well, then you know I've shared this all before.  I just love the hours I can spend in these little altered, captured worlds.

Retro Gals At The Pier collage

The key image here is the pier, which is in Ocean Beach, outside of San Diego.  OB was a favorite get-away place for us for several years.

The Mary Janes Collage

Our vintage lady pals on the right was the key image. A little color and they were ready to dance. Colorful ladies in the tea cup were nursing school graduates.

The young lad on the left was the first to arrive. Deserts should appear in Collage World often. And they do.

Local Landmarks & Landscapes, Millennial Barbies and Out of Action

It's been awhile since I've been here.  I had knee replacement surgery in June, had a few set-backs with it and am just now feeling energized enough to collage and blog.

But some of my art has been out and about.  I was delighted to learn that both of my 'gothic'  pieces in the Shenandoah Valley Art Center members show sold!  WooHoo.

There was another great group show at SVAC, which I'm sorry I didn't let you know about at the time.  The concept was art based on local landmarks and landscapes.  The project used an interesting device, in which artists chose from a list of locations.  50 in all.  I chose a wonderful home on Cherry Avenue and went with that 'Cherrified' inspiration in a big way.  Literal can be fun!  A book of the show was produced as well.

A few favorites ~

Art took a back seat while recuperating,. I did do a couple birthday cards, but it was just recently that I had the energy and ability to stay at my computer, to do a collage.  Came across this image of the new line of Millennial Barbies - and their Kens - and off I went. I do like the retro baker accenting the hipsters. A bit of fun.  Eclairs and donuts too!

More Cedar Key 2017

Cedar Key is an artsy town. Two galleries, funky colors everywhere, signage, art-ed walls on homes and businesses and lots of found-object gardens. Yes!!

This 'gallery' is a mystery.  An old, unused building right downtown on 2nd Street, which is the main street.  Last year I noticed a few found object sculptures nailed to the wall. This year more, including a painting.  So far I apparently haven't asked the right person, as I have not found out who the artist/s are.

The Dollar General store is a big deal here. 12 miles out of town on Route 24 on the 'mainland' it is the biggest store nearby.  There is the very neat and a bit pricey Market At Cedar Key right in town and a 7-11 type liquor store as well.  But for 'stuff' off to the Dollar General.  I found the donut mug featured in this collage there, A true 'gotta have it' item and for only a buck, why not indulge?

I love the look of the Blue Desert Cafe, but have yet to eat here.  It's a tiny place. Reviews say the food is good but everything takes a really long time. Those in the know bring a bottle of wine and are happy to hang out.
